And welcome…2005!

Sun, 02 Jan 2005, 01:12 pm

And 2005 has officially started. Not with a loud bang, but just a quiet passing of 2004 into 2005 marked by prayers and contemplative thoughts.

Well, we ended 2004 in the company of two friends while watching back to back episodes of Die Another Day on Astro (And whoever selected all the pretty boys for the Are You Bond Enough contest must be nuts. Imagine, all of them came from different countries, and majority of the contestants had the same pretty boy looks. Perfect if you’re competing for a Are You Boy-Band Enough contest…but for James Bond?!? The epitome of the rugged yet charming, stylish woman and man’s man…perfectly portrayed by Sean Connery (both young AND old!!) and quite perfectly portrayed by the gorgeous Pierce Brosnan.) For food, we had mulled wine (thanks for bringing all the stuff over guys!), sausages, bruschetta and mango strudels that someone found incredibly hard to eat…hahah…=) Did anyone remember me saying that I was planning to make Tiramisu? Hmmm…big disaster. That’s what happens when you don’t cook for one year!! In my defense…I lost the original recipe that I used to use. We got a pressie too (thanks again, guys!)…a lovely Moleskine notebook….reminds me of the one used by Sean Connery’s character in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade…..though that one was well used and ancient looking…=)

Saturday and today has been a total couch-potato day….just wandered around aimlessly at home. Hubby managed to drag my lazy butt out for a stroll at the Taman Tun park on Saturday evening though…it’s really a very nicely planned-out park with ponds and streams and artificial waterfalls, plus a nice, albeit worn out, jogging track. You can see families having picnics, kids wading in the shallow stream catching small fishes, fathers playing badminton with their kids….plus, the weather was pretty good yesterday, so it was good to get out for a breath of fresh air.

We also had dinner with a couple of Eric’s Ipoh friends last night. Venue? Souled Out. Now…since it opened, I have refused to step foot into that establishment…mainly because it’s always packed and I have an attitude (problem) about going to these so-called ‘popular’ places. But I didn’t have much of a choice yesterday since my suggestion to go to either the Brazilian BBQ place (Carnaval Churrascaria) or Fatty Crab was totally shot down. And I left Souled Out feeling absolutely vindicated for avoiding that place for so long. The food was really really not to my taste. Mango and prawn salad…yummy? Would’ve been if not for the dressing that had a weird coconut taste. Sweet and sour fish? Fish was too fried, sweet and sour sauce….sweet? Sour? Tasteless was more like it. Stuffed yau-char-kway? Over-fried. Biting through it actually hurt my mouth. Honest. A friend had chilli prawns (or something along those lines..)…apparently it turned out to be sweet and not-spicy-at-all prawns. Chicken Maryland? Totally over-fried. I don’t know. Maybe I just have a knack of ordering food that taste awful. Maybe everything else on the menu that I didn’t order actually tastes really really nice. Who knows? But I sure won’t be going back there to find out!

So 2005 started off with nothing to do, followed by bad food, followed by no yoga (the studio was closed when we went by this morning). Hmmm…things better start looking up soon though I doubt it…work tomorrow…sigh…next week is gonna be a killer week for me.

Oh yeah…hubby managed to fix my ActiveSync problem between my compy and my phone….it was caused by the anti-virus. So if any of you are new XPhoneII users and face the same problem, you might want to switch off every check point on your anti-virus program….email, internet, etc. before running the ActiveSync.
