Whee…I just found out how to change the background, etc. of my Friendster profile page…! Created a quick background using Photoshop’s brushes…leaves in light purple, pink and magenta (yes, I know there are no leaves in these colours…but a girl’s gotta have some pink, baby!)…and voila…=)

Hubby and I were at KLCC shopping for new clothes for CNY one weekend when hunger pangs struck (hey, shopping IS tiring, ‘k?)…and since I was so tired and bored of eating at the same few shops that we frequent during lunch time, we decided to try some place new…which was how we ended up at Chocz (it’s located on the 3rd floor, near to Isetan’s entrance).

We took our time deciding what to have (there were so many tempting choices…if you’re on a diet, don’t eat here!)…hubby finally decided to go for a banana milkshake (boring! Haha…), while I ordered their…oh darn it. This is what happens when I don’t write the name of the dish down and I don’t blog about it immediately!! Anyways, it’s a grilled banana thingy with vanilla ice cream, waffle, and mango sauce.

Hubby’s banana milkshake arrived first…I took a tiny sip and regretted it immediately. Way too dilute for a milkshake…=( Too…milky…if there’s such a thing. My dessert thingy took quite some time to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. The bananas were sweet and had a very melt-in-your-mouth texture, while the dusting of cocoa powder offset the sweetness of the mango sauce and the vanilla ice cream. Very very nice! Especially nice when piled onto the waffle and eaten in one big mouthful…

Would really like to go back to try their hot chocolate (they have it in dark chocolate…woohoo!) and their other desserts. Yummy! Oh…one thing though…the service is kinda slow…=(

Yummy fried mee hoon

Mon, 06 Feb 2006, 08:59 pm

When we went back to Ipoh some time ago, KK brough hubby and I for this absolutely delicious fried mee-hoon at a shop that only opens at 9pm, and has a waiting time of 45 minutes before you get to eat after you place your order. It was so unbelievably tasty that the next time we went back to Ipoh, I was jumping up and down looking forward to going there again. I mean, the prawns that come with the mee-hoon are so fresh, big and crunchy….*drools* Gotta get the name of the shop the next time I go back…

Anyways, we were hunting for a new place to try last weekend so I flipped through my trusty Foodster guide and there was a recommendation on a coffeeshop at Paramount (it’s a corner coffeeshop located at the same row as KFC but at the opposite end, near the old Ruby theatre) that apparently has good Wan Tan Mee, yam cake and….fried mee hoon! And so far, my Foodster guide has NEVER failed me…so off we went. (We weren’t too sure if we got the right coffeeshop at first…but there was a stall in there selling Wan Tan mee, another selling yam cake, and one more selling fried mee hoon…can’t be coincidental, right?)

Anyways, the Wan Tan Mee was pretty good…but the highlight of the night was that I might’ve found the equivalent of Ipoh’s fried mee-hoon at this coffeeshop!! Sure, the prawns were much smaller, but they get awarded extra brownie points for adding one of my absolute favourite bad-for-health food into the mee-hoon….lap cheong (Chinese sausages)!!!!! Oh so very very very yummy. We had to ta pau more than half the noodles home (too full from the Wan Tan Mee and sweet desserts that we ordered), but when I heated it up at night…it tasted just as good and I polished it off all by myself (yes, I did offer some to hubby…)!! OoOooo..can’t wait to go back there!

Oh…and if you like Sar Hor Fun, there’s a really good shop located at the row behind this coffeeshop…very very light and non-oily. I can’t remember the name of the shop though, but I think there’s only one shop selling Sar Hor Fun there…=)

This shop supposedly serves really good Seafood Tom Yum noodles (according to my trusty foodie guide), so one day, we decided to drive down to Segambut to try it out. Guess what? It was closed!! *pout* Well, I found out a few days later from my parents that the Segambut branch only opens for lunch, but there’s another one in SS2 that opens for dinner…so hubby and I dropped by one Monday after work to check it out. The shop is located at the row behind Chow Yang, and when we arrived, it was half-full. Or half-empty. Hmm. Anyways, we sat near the entrance because the shop was really really humid and hot.

We were presented with the very brief menu, which consisted of the three different soup choices we could have to go with the noodles (Tom Yum, Curry & Clear Soup), and a list of drinks. Hubby of course choose the Tom Yum soup, while yours truly, whose food order always comes with an additional ‘no-chilli-or-pepper-please’ reminder, went for the Clear Soup with mee hoon (vermicelli).

We didn’t have to wait long before two steaming hot and huge bowls of noodles were brought over to our table. Both were chocked-full with seafood…fish, mussels, huge prawns and squid. I eagerly dug in, and it tasted great! The clear soup isn’t very oily, very ching (light), and the fish and prawns were cooked just right (ie. the prawns were crunchy!!). I passed all my mussels and squid over to hubby though…=) Hubby said that his Tom Yum noodles were pretty good too. I managed to finish the whole bowl of noodles…no mean feat considering how much we were served and how small my tummy-capacity is…*grin*
