This is a newly opened shop at Midvalley (LG, Centre Court, opposite MacDonalds). The brand looks Japanese with it’s cute logo…don’t know if it is or not. Anyways, the day it opened, there was actually a long queue for their cream puffs (they only serve cream puffs for the moment, but according to the guy whom we spoke to - the owner, I think - they plan to bring in other items as well). Hubby and I queued up too and bought five to share with some colleagues at the office. The cream puffs were fresh out of the oven, and they pipe in the custard on the spot, sprinkle a little bit of icing sugar and pack it up for you as you pay. It’s not cheap though…RM3.30 per puff, and no discounts for buying more! While I like the choux pastry itself (it’s very light and it’s baked till a nice golden colour…very appetizing!), I found the custard to be a little bit too watery for my taste. Perhaps I’m used to my mum’s cream puffs where the custard is REAL custard…thick and gooey and eggy…mmm…!! While hubby bought another two when we were at Midvalley a couple of weeks later, I personally wouldn’t buy it again, it’s way too expensive for a snack…I’d rather bug my mum to bake some for me…*grin*

Secret Recipe @ Wisma MCA

We had a super long lunch at the above-mentioned restaurant a couple of days ago. Unfortunately…not by choice! Located right next to Citi in Wisma MCA, the cafe is usually very popular with the lunch crowd, and as usual, we found it about 80% full when hubby and I walked in. We found a table upstairs and quickly placed our orders…my usual Grilled Mushroom Chicken, while hubby went for the Chicken Cordon-Bleu. I was busy relating to hubby regarding the highlights of my morning conference call…ok ok…I was bitching about some people…so I was pleasantly surprised when my meal was brought to our table rather quickly…about 15 minutes after we placed our orders! I should’ve known better….as soon as I sunk my teeth into the chicken, I quickly spit it back out….why? It was COLD! The gravy was cold, the chicken meat was cold….eeeyuuuck!! We sent the dish back to the kitchen, and soon after, a new one was brought back, this time, steaming hot (though it didn’t stay that way coz we were seated right under the aircon). Again, I felt surprised…no restaurant is good enough to replace your meal like this…usually they’ll just bring it back to the kitchen, heat it up, and bring it back to you exactly the way you left it (in my case, with a half chewed spit out piece of chicken). Haha….whaddaya know, about 5 minutes after I dug into my chicken, another waiter came over with the same dish asking if we ordered Grilled Mushroom Chicken. We thought they’d mistaken our table with another and said ‘no’ since they’d already served me mine. When he walked away, guess what I saw??? Guess guess guess!! Yessss….it was my original plate, with the half chewed, etc. etc. piece of chicken. And you know what that blur waiter did? He went from table to table asking if the customer ordered that dish. What if some unlucky soul DID order it? *groan*

And hubby’s meal took a freaking 45 minutes to be served! How long does it take to cook Chicken Cordon-Bleu?!?!? The table behind ours waited equally long, and one guy from the group looked angry enough to punch the waiter (whom, by the way, is extremely lackadaisical!)

And it gets worse! I packed one slice of Chocolate Banana cake for tea-time (I don’t know why, but I always get hungry at 4pm irregardless of how much I’ve had to eat during lunch!). I opened the box at tea-time to see black bananas. BLACK! B.L.A.C.K. BLACK. It was all soggy and…ugh…absolutely unedible. I threw the whole box away in disgust.

I’ve got a good mind to write a letter to their management team. This is absolutely lousy service, and whaddaya mean ‘Fine Quality Cakes’??? They seem to be missing ‘Fine’ and ‘Quality’. And ‘Cakes’ now seem abit dodgy too. Now I know why I stopped going to Secret Recipe for a long period of time ages and ages ago…perhaps it’s time to stop going there again. Why open so many branches and trade off profitability for quality?

Food review

Fri, 03 Feb 2006, 06:46 pm

I’ve been procrastinating on a couple of foodie entries…too lazy to write up and edit photos…tee hee…=) Finally got off my lazy ass and started writing a few…so I’ll post ‘em as I finish ‘em. Am trying to clean up my blog categories too…I’m just such a disorganized person!
