Hubby and I had dinner with friends at Lilycenario last night. It’s a (new?) restaurant located at SS2, behind New Paris and Ah Tuan Yee. It was pouring when we arrived at 7.30pm, luckily we managed to find a parking space right next to the five foot way…though we did cheat by driving up the street in the wrong direction…hehe…=)

Lilycenario is done up in all blues and whites…very clean and minimalist. As it was a corner shoplot, one wall had glass panes from the floor to the ceiling, so it looked really nice and airy. At one corner, there was a gorgeous piece of…well, I’d call it art…it consisted of hundreds of crystals hanging down from the ceiling of the first floor (there was a hole cut out of the floor upstairs) in shades of turquoise, green and blue. Absolutely lovely!

The menu had quite a wide selection of food, ranging from sandwiches to pasta to fried rice and chicken chop as well as herbal teas. A signboard made of tempered glass near the counter proudly exclaimed “No MSG used”…a rare thing to see in restaurants! Healthy food, this is!

Both hubby and WS ordered Pumpkin Soup, while I had a Bruschetta for starters. For mains, we oredered Pan Fried Chicken Chop served with Salad & Fries (hubby, Pixel, LL), Fried Rice with Egg & Fried Chicken (me), Fresh Ginger with Japanese Fish Fillet served with Rice (WS) and pasta (mvo & BY…can’t remember what kind BY had, mvo had the one with chicken and creamy mushroom). The bruschetta was done just the way I liked it…no pepper, chilled tomatoes and garlic…nice! Hubby said his pumpkin soup, which came with a slice of garlic bread with melted cheese, was really nice…I took a sip (first time tasting pumpkin!)…it was really creamy!

My fried rice was served with three pieces of fried chicken and an egg, sunny-side up. As usual, the yolk went to hubby (and two pieces of chicken in exchange for half of his chicken chop) before I started devouring the rice. The portion was quite large…I found the rice to be abit bland…nice, but a bit more salt would be nice. Then again, maybe other restaurants put MSG in their fried rice, and this one doesn’t, hence the lack of saltiness? =)) The Chicken Chop was pathetically small…probably to leave room in ones tummy for dessert? And speaking of which…dessert was absolutely delicious. Hubby had a scoop of Sesame Ice Cream (thumbs up), while mvo, BY, LL, WS and yours truly shared two brownies topped with vanilla ice cream. The brownies were warm, and not as dry as some brownies usually are…heavenly when eaten with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Drool…just drool…

After dinner, we went up to the first floor which housed an art gallery, and found out that the crystal hanging thingy (ok, I really don’t know what to call it!!) took six people five days to complete…and it has about 6,000 crystals strung on fishing wire…!! And the owner (or at least I think she is) pointed out that it was actually hung in a spiral pattern, and the coloured crystals were placed in such a way that it formed the number ‘8′! How cool is that?!?

Anyways, do try it out…I’d like to come back and try some of the other food items on their menu…and perhaps the pancakes…mmmm….

Thanks goes out to mvo for introducing this place! =) And to WS for footing the bill…muahahaha….
