The Banquet

Sumptious costumes, a period drama, my favourite Chinese actress, Zhang Ziyi and a love story. Too bad the show was just this side of draggy. It was like watching a beautifully choreographed ballet. At half the speed. It got abit exciting towards the end, though…but be warned…you’ll have to sit through two hours before reaching the last somewhat exciting 10 minutes :-)

Zhang Ziyi as Empress Wan is superb…I love the way she subtly uses her eyes to convey her feelings. And the script…I couldn’t understand a word at all (thank god for English subtitles!) but something about the way they say it, or the pronounciation…it just sounds like poetry. And I particularly love the scene where Empress Wan tells Wu Luan…”Using a mask to hide your expression isn’t the highest form of art. The highest form of art is turning your face into a mask”. Ok, it just doesn’t sound that good in plain old English. And the grandeur of the sets and the costumes…how absolutely gorgeous. It just made me want to live in that era just to experience how it feels.

Fans of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hero will love this one. Just be forewarned…it really is a slow slow show. And remember to bring a pillow to sit on…my butt ached like crazy halfway throughout the show!

My morning shower

Fri, 22 Sep 2006, 06:20 pm

I woke up this morning bleary and in a bad mood. Stumbled to the washroom to brush my teeth only to find the water pressure to be quite low. It happens sometimes, so I thought nothing of it. Finished washing up and started taking my shower. I usually shower with my eyes closed in the morning…hey, an extra few minutes is an extra few minutes! Well, just as I was about done, I opened my eyes only to find that the water had turned a dirty brown colour…it was like showering in Milo. I gave a scream, which was not only loud enough to wake hubby up, but lo and behold…it got him out of bed! :-) He suggested to let the water run till it turns clear…which I did…but seriously, how yucky is that?!?

It took about 5 minutes for the water to clear up, after which I finished my shower and toweled dry. Went over to the dressing table, got my SKII toner (yes yes, I read the reports about the China SKII thingy…wondering if I should return my unused stuff and ask for a refund!) and cottonwool out, swiped it across my face…and guess what? The cottonwool turned brown!! Looks like sediment isn’t that easy to wash out. Ugh.

Hopped back into the shower (the water was clear this time!) and took another bath. Hopped out, got the cottonwool…and it was still dirty! What the?!? Got in the shower one more time, used my loofah and scrubbed myself till I was red all over…and finally, miracles of miracles, I was really clean.

So all in all, I took my bath three times this morning. And got to work late, of course. What a way to start the morning!

And, uh…I did ask hubby…”Do you think I can get an MC for turning brown?” :-)

Jewelry class level 3: Photos have been removed

Wed, 20 Sep 2006, 05:10 pm

FYI, I’ve been asked by the owners of Strands Gallery to take down the photos of the pieces made during the classes…so if you want to see what will be taught, you’ll have to make a trip over to their shop at Plaza Damas to enquire…sorry!

Fancy a swim?

Wed, 20 Sep 2006, 05:37 pm

This was a pic I took with my camera phone about a month ago on my way back from work…it had been raining the whole evening, and THIS is what happens to our lovely KL rivers:

dsc00906.jpg

I found out later that the water levels rose so quickly that, 15 minutes after I’d left my office, the water had flowed into the street and was somewhere in between ankle to knee-high. *shudders*
I need to find out if my car insurance covers floods!
