Trick or treat
For the first time ever, we just got trick or treat-ed!
I was surfing the net and hubby was reading the newspaper when the doorbell rang 10 minutes ago. I walked out to see hubby looking baffled as well…we usually don’t get unannounced guests and we just paid the newspaperman not too long ago…
I tip-toed to the door and peered through the eyehole and saw two kids wearing this…

Hubby and I stood by the door looking all puzzled for a moment before I realized that it’s Halloween and the kids were probably expecting a handful of sweets and choccies.
I went to the kitchen and looked through the fridge and cabinets only to realize that we DON’T have any sweets at all, and so while the two poor kids were ringing our doorbell non-stop, the two of us were standing in our kitchen laughing silently at our predicament and wondering what we should do! *shy*
Finally, the two kids gave up and moved on…I heard them at our neighbour’s place next door and HE obviously had sweets!
I found this incident really amusing as we M’sian’s never really celebrate Halloween in a big way…I mean, you can see decorations in shopping centres and restaurants probably have some Halloween set menu that consists of pumpkin everything, but unlike Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas, and of course, National Day and New Year’s Eve, the impact of Halloween is not really felt here…and like I mentioned earlier, this is the first time I’ve seen kids going trick or treating, so we were superbly unprepared for this!! Part of me is still wondering which is worse…letting the kids think there wasn’t anyone in the apartment, or opening the door and admitting to having no sweets to give them? I feel like such a meanie…
Anyways, hubby commented afterwards that it was a good thing I looked through the eyehole first instead of opening the door straightaway coz with me not remembering that it’s Halloween, I probably would’ve screamed out loud seeing those masks and scared the kids away (I think in addition, I would’ve probably also slammed the door shut on instinct!!)! Now, that would’ve been much much worse than having no sweets, don’t you think?

Good thing that the two children were just out for treats and not up to any tricks. When I was in UK, those children would throw rotten eggs at the door if there were no treats so I always keep some sweets at home during Halloween then but of course not now cos I don’t expect Malaysians to celebrate Halloween.

Hahaha that was cute and very funny!! Made my day!!
Over here, I think people take Halloween a little too “seriously”. People are really in some serious getups!

Carrot: Hmm…I wonder if that’s what happened to you when you were young? *grin*
Mmin: Rotten eggs? Seriously?!?
Siongee: I think it’s catching on slowly but surely in M’sia, especially in areas with alot of expatraites…
