New Zealand: Day 11
I woke up groggy and tired and dragged myself to the bathroom to wash up while hubby happily snored away for another 30 minutes. Guys…how do they get ready so fast?!? Well, I managed to get dressed just in time for us to rush downstairs to meet the bus that was taking us to Milford Sound.
Hmmm…come to think of it, all we did on Day 11 was to sit in a bus for 8 hours (to and fro), and a boat for 2 hours…*grin* This is gonna be one short post!
We stopped for breakfast at Te Anau, afterwhich, we continued on to Eglinton Valley and Mirror Lakes (gorgeous if not for one lone silly duck making ripples in the otherwise still water!).
Next stop, The Chasm…a 10 minute trek into a dense forest to see a waterfall gushing through a very narrow gorge
And finally, Milford Sound where we finally saw the famous Mitre Peak, named so because its shape resembles that of a Bishop’s mirtre, or headdress. The cruise itself was nothing spectacular, in my honest opinion…after awhile, all the waterfalls blend into one. We saw some Southern Fur Seals though…and lots of rainbows!
And then, back to Queenstown…which seemed to take forever! By the time we neared the city centre, it was pitch black outside the bus save for the twinkling stars. And oh…I actually saw a shooting star! And of course I made a wish…
After having some Indian food from a nearby takeaway for dinner, we just fell into bed, exhausted. Three more days before our holiday comes to an end!
