Of all the stupid things that could happen…

…I swear this will make your day!

I’ve been having a sore throat.

Correction, I’m still having a sore throat. More accurately, the right side of my throat near my ears hurt. And my ears have been taking turns to be blocked for the past three days. Yes, taking turns. It’s like…left ear: blocked, right ear: unblocked. The both ears blocked. Then one ear pops. Then gets blocked again. It’s been driving me crazy, and rather worried that my sore throat has caused an infection in my ear canal. And it feels like I’ve been living with my head in a fish-bowl for the last three days.

Anyways, I went to see the doctor yesterday, and he said that while my throat still looks sore, my ears doesn’t seem infected. And he sent me off with a dose of antibiotics consisting of gigantic orange capsules.

For some reason, I had no problem swallowing one after lunch yesterday.

But last night was a different story. I *thought* I swallowed the capsule. After all, I didn’t feel it stuck in my throat or anything.

Give or take 5 minutes…

I felt a burp coming. So I burped. Guess what came up…seriously…guess!!

Real life drama!

Wed, 31 Jan 2007, 10:11 pm

Hubby had a late meeting this evening, so I ended up waiting in the office for him to finish. I was getting rather peckish and decided to go down to Coffee Bean at the lobby to get a muffin. That was around 6+pm. When I got to the ground floor, I saw a couple of people standing in front of one of the lifts…and as I glanced over on my way out, I saw the lift door was opened…and the lift was stuck halfway in between floors! I could see people’s feet, and some of the lift passengers were sitting on the floor looking mighty pissed (it was time to go home, after all!).

Sanjin Watermelon Frost

Sun, 28 Jan 2007, 09:59 pm

The first person I ever saw using this was my college mate, TC. Somehow, the memory of it just stuck with me, and even weirder…despite countless sore throats, this was the first time I’d ever bought it to try. It comes in a small, cheap-looking bottle…really dodgy, actually…and what you do is to aim it at the back of your throat, give it a squeeze and a puff of the frost thingy will get sprayed out (it looks like assam powder that we usually eat with guavas…).

Anyways, it works. It really does. The first thing you feel is a cold sensation, and then the pain just disappears. IMMEDIATELY. Downside (there always is!)? It’s tastes FREAKING HORRIBLE!!!! The first time I tried it, I screwed up my eyes and gagged. Then I started pacing, going, yuckyuckyuckyuckyuck. Then I drank some water…which does dilute it somewhat…but I really couldn’t stand the herbal, medicinal taste.

The website has this weird story on it’s history and how it’s supposedly made (some ancient secret recipe, apparently!)…but all I can say is, with all this technology, can’t someone make it tastes better??

M & WS recommended this gem of a restaurant located along Jalan Ceylon some time ago, and we finally decided to give it a try, despite my recovering (but still irritating as hell) sore throat.

I won’t go into much detail about the food because everything was just good, good, good and I’ll run out of synonyms for ‘good’ all too soon! My only regret was that we didn’t have anymore stomach space for dessert, which I really wanted to try! In terms of ambience, the restaurant has a nice, cosy feel, and is rather dimly lit (hence the grainy ISO400 photos!). Parking was abit of a problem though…we had to park along a narrow, steep road located a short distance from the entrance.

Anyways…food piccies!

The bread basket came with two types of bread…a normal white roll with a crust, and a pizza-like flat bread which was extremely tasty:

Mixed salad with sliced mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and olives…the salad was crispy and a nice start to the meal:

Spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino…portions are really generous, and my parents said it tasted really good!:

Linguine vongole with asparagus, cherry tomato in white wine sauce…I assure you, there IS pasta underneath all those clams! :-P The white wine sauce was yummy, partly due to the sweetness of the clams, I suppose. And unlike those served in many Italian restaurants, the clams were not your usual blink-and-you’ll-miss-it variety…these ones were big enough to taste…*grin*:

Pizza Capricciosa: tomato, mozzarella, turkey ham, artichoke, mushroom…I didn’t try this but it got thumbs up from hubby and my dad:

Photos that weren’t posted coz of shaky hands due to a rumbling, hungry tummy were my parent’s seafood soup and hubby’s roast lamb shank with mashed potatoes, fresh tomato, capsicum and onion sauce… :-)

Looks good? Do give it a try! Just remember to make reservations first coz the place was seriously filling up fast by the time we left, and most of the tables were already reserved to begin with!

Feels like I swallowed sandpaper

Fri, 26 Jan 2007, 09:05 pm

After a meal at a restaurant near our place on Tuesday night, I awoke in the middle of the night to find my throat all parched and dry. Don’t know if it’s the food from the restaurant (better not name the restaurant…wouldn’t want to be sued since it seems like the trend nowadays), though I have a feeling the chef was probably feeling rather generous with MSG that night.

Anyways, my throat has been feeling absolutely dry and sandpaper-y since then. I’ve been guzzling water non-stop to no avail. Gargling with salt water, Strepsils and dried licorice strips (recommended by my colleague…it tastes awful but it helps) provide only temporary relief. The weirdest thing is that it doesn’t really hurt, unlike a normal sore throat (and I should know coz I’m super-prone to sore throats). It’s just dry dry dry and it’s driving me crazy!

And now it’s after dinner and I can now feel the beginnings of a sore throat. Add to that overwhelming tiredness and a fuzzy brain…methinks I’m falling sick.

Sux.
