This restaurant was reviewed by The Star about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been eagerly waiting to try it out. Out of ideas for lunch this morning, I suggested going to Bijou.

Occupying what was formerly Flinders, Bijou is located at Mont Kiara Damai, right below Energy Day Spa. It didn’t look all too fancy from the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised when we stepped into the restaurant. It’s done up mainly in whites, with whitewashed wooden floors and splashes of fuschia. The restaurant is bright and airy, and the tables are spaced far apart, giving it a very relaxed feel…just like a restaurant you would expect to find next to a beach!

The review in The Star did mention that this is a child-friendly restaurant, and true enough, there were quite a few families there with young kids. The widely spaced tables sure gave them plenty of room to run about! :-)

We were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant and given the menus. I immediately zoomed in on the Breadcrumb Pasta, which was also mentioned in the review…I love any pasta that has garlic and prawns and tomatoes…I can never resist trying it out! Hubby originally wanted to try their breakfast menu, but unfortunately, it wasn’t an all-day-thingy, so he settled for Fish and Chips instead.

Our food didn’t take long to arrive, and I eagerly dug into my pasta. It was certainly garlicky enough for me (not recommended on first dates, yah!), and there were plenty of chopped oven dried tomatoes. The portion is just right for lunch, and it doesn’t sit as heavily in the tummy as cream-based pasta.

Hubby’s F&C was apparently made of butterfish, and while the fish itself tasted good, we found the batter to be too thick. It wasn’t all that oily (compared to some restaurants where you can soak up the oil with a paper napkin), but a thinner crust would’ve been nicer.

I wanted to try their desserts, but they only had cakes and muffins (which, by the way, looked extremely pretty sitting on a side table near the entrance of the restaurant), and I actually wanted to try their Pink Berry and Meringue Sundae, but I suppose it’s only available for dinner.

I think this place is great to meet friends as they have a section at the back of the restaurant that can be screened off using fuschia see-through curtains. I can also imagine that it’ll be lovely to have an engagement party or birthday party here…the whites and pinks are a delightful colour combination. Yes *nods head emphatically*…I definitely would love to hold a party here! :-) :-)

While I can’t make much of a conclusion since we only tried two dishes, I would venture to say that the rest of the food is probably good, but not spectacular, but combined with the ambience and the quick and friendly service, it’s a place I would definitely like to come back again…preferably for dinner so that I can try the desserts!

I like their atmosphere esp the area which faces the pool as we had brekkie there one weekend. Foodwise I thought was so so, nothing spectacular to wow me and it’s quite pricey for the portions they served. We did try their Banoffee Pie which was good and I liked the way they arranged the cakes in different cake stands. Only after I read the review at the Star did I know it’s owned by a relative of mine!!

On their brekkie menu, I like their herbed chicken sausage but their rosti was soggy and not crispy. Pancakes were pretty good and fluffy too.

Cheekypumpkin: I think, as expected with these type of restaurants in these locations, it’s a bit on the pricey side as we’re probably paying for the ambience as well! :-)
Zewt: LOL…you’re asking a girl who loves pink…what am I gonna answer? *grin*

Boo_licious: Thanks for the comments on the brekkie and Banoffee Pie! Will remember the next time I’m there. Rosti no good? Ah…what a waste…my hubby loves rosti!
