Two failed photography expedition and one good dinner!
We’d originally planned to go to Lake Titiwangsa to take some photos of the Eye On Malaysia. I ended up snapping this

from the car because we were stuck in a nearly 30 minute traffic jam at the road surrounding the lake because of the lack of parking spaces. And true to our M’sian nature, despite this year being Visit Malaysia Year and the huge publicity on the Eye On Malaysia, there was a small kebun bunga (flower…err…farm?) right next to the lake which was happily burning rubbish right out in the open. Sheesh.
Anyways, we left the area around 7pm with only one lousy photo and two hungry, rumbling tummies. In a stroke of inspiration, hubby suggested going to a Nong & Jimmy, a Thai BBQ place at Ampang Jaya. I quickly agreed (else it’ll be my job to think of somewhere else to go!). We were first introduced to this place ages ago by hubby’s ex-boss who brought us there for a scrumptious dinner of crabs, prawns and extremely yummy fried rice. Luckily, hubby could remember the way there. I helpfully told him “Don’t count on me to remember, ya…”.
We arrived to find the place buzzing with people. We were lucky as there were still some empty car parking spaces and tables! As soon as we sat down, one of the staff came along to take our order. I left it up to hubby…all I wanted was fried rice and butter prawns! We also ordered the mini fried cruellers (yau char kway) with kaya (you have to order this separately…while the stall is situated within the compound of the restaurant, it’s run by different people). If you’re thinking…yau char kway with kaya?!? Well, trust me, it tastes really good and they sell like hotcakes…there’s a plate on every table.
Anyways, I’ll let the photos do the talking:
Crabs on the hot hot grill (we didn’t order this):

Clams too (we didn’t order this either):

The yau char kway being deep fried:

Tomyam soup:

Grilled squid:

Fried kai lan:

Fried rice:

Butter prawns:

Fried mini yau char kway with kaya:

All that for RM58.
It’s a lovely place to come with friends…you can sit there all night stuffing yourself silly with good food and cheap drinks. Just be prepared to sweat it out abit since it’s open air (got fans lar…).
Tried it? Rate it!
Nong and Jimmy Thai BBQ
6pm-11pm, closed on Mondays
Directions: Get off Jalan Tun Razak highway and onto the Ampang Elevated Highway. Go past the toll, past the Ampang Sports Planet complex and turn left to join back into Jalan Ampang. Turn right at the first traffic light into Jalan Dagang. You’ll go past a shopping centre on your right. Drive past the first traffic light and turn left onto Jalan Cahaya 1. The restaurant is an open-air place on your right.
Oh…and the second failed photography expedition was us trying to take photos of KLCC at night after dinner. We circled the whole area searching for a place to park and finally gave up halfway!
