Die, you annoying spam-thingies

Wed, 21 Feb 2007, 08:12 pm

I’ve been getting comment spam for the past few months…and managed to build up quite a long list of common spam words. Still, I was getting 20 odd comments per day, with maybe one or two real comments in between…moderating it was getting on my nerves, so last night, I installed Akismet, one of those anti-spam thingies.

I hope it works…I don’t want to come back four days later to find 100+ comment spam to clear…!

So in the meantime, in case you don’t see your comments appear immediately, bear with me for awhile, k?

And I’ll respond to the earlier comments soon…so sorry! *sheepish grin*

Gimme gimme gimme

Wed, 21 Feb 2007, 08:08 pm

Yesterday, the rubbish-collector came to my parent’s house, rang the doorbell, and asked for an angpow.

Apparently, the cleaning ladies at our condo have been loitering around, seemingly waiting for an angpow.

My hubby just told me that the parking attendant at his office asked him for an angpow before CNY even started.

What the *toot*?!?

I mean, of course it has become customary to give a small angpow to the guards, the cleaning ladies, the tea ladies, etc. We do it every year…at the very least to ensure that the automatic gate doesn’t close when we drive our car in, the space in front of our apartment is swept, the rubbish is collected, the tea is still tea and not tea with something else…*grin*. I’m not saying that these people are so hard-up for money, or that our angpows are worth so much…

But when did voluntary become mandatory?

For those who are travelling, drive safely!
