Foodie pics from Ipoh: Dessert
Tried it? Rate it!
After dinner on Saturday night, we gathered at this place called Ice Ice Baby (yeah, I cringed when I heard the name too) near…err…I don’t even know what the place is called. Padang? It’s opposite this huge field near one of the boys school where a row of old shophouses have been converted into *hip* and *happening* kopitiams…
Anyways, despite the cringeworthy name, the desserts were really nice. Not as big a portion as shown in their menus, but tasty nevertheless. And lots and lots of variety…from crepes to baked rice to icy desserts, some tong sui, sago desserts with fruits, some interesting ones called Sabayon…
In fact, I liked it so much that we went back with the gang on Sunday evening before hubby and I left for KL! The decor of the place is pretty nice too, with two small private areas at the back.
Ok, enough words…here comes piccies from Sat night and Sun evening!
Old shophouses have been converted to cafes/kopitiams like Happy Valley, Old Town…

The exterior of Ice Ice Baby…*cringe*cringe*

The counter where they make the desserts and drinks

Menu

Nice (but unfortunately, dim) lighting

Papaya milk

Sea coconut Lou Yeah with longan

Creme Brulee

Mango Lou Yeah with longan, sea coconut and nata de coco

A tall big glass of cold honeydew juice

Grape jelly…this is really good! Tastes of lovely green grapes…a really refreshing drink on a hot and sticky Sunday afternoon!

Baked rice

Some Hong Kong egg puff thingy

Chocolate banana crepe. This is really good too, cause unlike most of these type of crepes where the banana comes totally raw, I think they cook theirs with the bananas inside so that it’s all soft and gooey!

I ordered this again on Sunday…this time, it’s the sea coconut Lou Yeah with nata de coco, longan and mango…

Come on…rap it with me…
Ice ice baby…Ice ice baby
All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention…
…If there was a problem yo I’ll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it…
*grin*

OMG OMG i used to always sing along to the “Stop collaborate and listen” part. *super cringe* but now i don’t think i’d ever walk into a shop with that name, unless it was highly recommended by someone!

You’re right, that IS padang something. That’s Padang Ipoh, darling =) And, the huge all boys’ school is SMI. St Michael’s. Jen’s school. He so damn bloody proud of it wan lor. Like each time we drive near it ah, he’d purposely go make one big round just so that we would drive PAST it and say, “SEE SEE SEE! SO NICEEE!!! The best school in Ipoh!” Then, of course, we’d go into a debate why my school is the best because we have the top scorers, top athletes, top swimmers but SMI ah… apa pun tarak lor =)
Anyway, food. Yar, that place used to be an entire row of offices for tin mine back in Ipoh’s heyday. On that particular row, if you’re standing facing the shops, the last shop on your right was where my mom’s office was at before she quit and take care of the 2 brats.
Glad you had a good makan time in Ipoh

But but but, SMI is the best! Some scenes from Sepet were shot in there! And if it made it to the big screen, it’s gotta be the best
Food looks great anyway. Maybe we’ll try it this weekend…

Hi Soo Yin, you don’t know me but I read your blog quite regularly. I must say you take very good photos!

Jen: Oh no…don’t start a school debate…hehe…
Some of my hubby’s friends are from SMI too, actually. Do give it a try, just be forewarned that the serving is somewhat smaller than what’s shown in the pictures on the menu!
Joyce: Hiya…thanks for reading!
And for the compliment…though I have to add that Photoshop is the most used application on my computer….*grin*
