sooyindotcom…plugins

Mon, 21 May 2007, 07:18 pm

One of the best things about WordPress is the plethora of plugins that you can find to ‘prettify’ your blog. The plugin developers often spend lots of time to develop and test their plugins, not to mention further enhance it when the latest WordPress version is released, and it’s only right to give them due credit (and a huge shoutout) for all the work that they have done to help the programming-challenged WP users, a good example being me!

I originally started out this blog using the bare minimum of plugins, ie. only the ones that came bundled with my K2 theme plus a couple more. But when I switched to this current theme, I found that I needed more plugins…I wanted a new archiving format, I wanted tags, I wanted tag clouds, I wanted a custom error page, etc.

Well, the best place to search for WP plugins are these two sites:

1. The WordPress plugin database
2. The WordPress plugin directory

and of course, Google! I’ve also been following Lorelle’s Wordpress Plugins Series which reviews and recommends different plugins that you can use on your website. I found this series extremely useful when I was searching for plugins…I highly recommend reading it if you are planning to enhance your WP-powered website.

While installing a plugin is really easy (read the Codex, plus most plugins come with an installation guide, and once you’ve installed a few, you’ll instinctively know where to put the files), figuring out why a certain plugin doesn’t work can cause serious hair-tearing frustration. Luckily though, most plugin developers have forums, and most are more than willing to help you out…so there’s actually a lot of information on how to troubleshoot floating out there in the ‘net. And at worst, when one plugin fails, there’s always another available to take it’s place!

If you’re wondering what plugins I currently use on my site…or rather, how many, take a look at my plugins list (which was created by yet another plugin!) here!

ha I am clueless at this and did not know plug-ins can be used to beautify my simple blog! A little bit tech for me but thanks for the links!

Haha…well, plugins help alot with stuff like archiving, etc. However, you’re running on wordpress.com, right? If I remember Lorelle’s article correctly, I don’t think wordpress.com users can install plugins coz you don’t have your own host. But all the more reason to buy a domain name and hosting service…hahah…
