I met up with M & hubby today for lunch. M wanted to try the cakes at Just Heavenly Pleasures, so we decided to have lunch at Chef & Brew.

We arrived there a little bit past 12, and after a quick chat with Nigel, we went over to the restaurant to get a table.

While I like the ambience of Chef & Brew, I found the food sadly lacking in quality. I hope it’s just the dishes that we tried, but like M mentioned…restaurants that serve Italian, Chinese, Japanese AND local food are rarely very good. Jack of all trades and all that.

Both M and I ordered spaghetti…I had spaghetti with prawns and wild mushrooms, while she had spaghetti with calamari and wild mushrooms. As usual, I requested mine with no pepper, and whaddaya know? It came with pepper… :???: I was too lazy to send it back, though I felt rather annoyed.

Chef & Brew

The prawns were quite lembik (soft) and not fresh. I felt that the spaghetti lacked taste…it needed abit more garlic and olive oil. And maybe some basil and tomatoes…*grin*.

On the other hand, hubby liked his Indonesian oxtail soup though he did mention that it could be spicier.

Chef & Brew

M tried abit of hubby’s main dish, Hainanese chicken chop, and said it was much better than our spaghetti. I didn’t bother to try though…I was looking forward to dessert…

Chef & Brew

M & I had JHP’s Death by Chocolate for dessert…straight to the tummy and hips, I tell you! But it’s worth it… M paid for lunch (thanks so much!!), and she also bought two more cakes to bring home.

Any feedback from bloggers who have eaten at Chef & Brew before? Are their Western/Chinese dishes are better than the Italian ones?

There’s one in Pg. Service is slow and bad. Most waitstaff were gays and the few straight ones decided it was their prerogative to take advantage by groping and grabbing the gays. The gays were embarrassed about it but didnt’ dare say anything. I mean, fine if you want to have your hanky panky but please, not while I’m trying to have my lunch.

Food was meh and nothing much to shout about. For that price, I’d much rather have an extra Large McD meal :P

MeiyeN: Yuppers…do let me know what you think! You MUST try the Death by Chocolate…it melts in your mouth. But your sis very keng…I couldn’t even finish half coz it’s so rich!

Geekchic: Haha…talk about ruining your appetite! Ya, agree about the food and the price…quite ex, not really worth it…

aiyo, why say i pay for lunch? shy!

and Chef & Brew sucks!! I had a bad vibe abt that place when I see it from the road a long time ago but despite it all I thought I’d try it out today to give it benefit of the doubt….well…where is that gross smiley?

Perhaps (and a big one at that) the asian food fares better…

Chef and Brew is own by the same people who do Victoria Station so you’re safer with their steaks dishes and not the Asian items.

Boo_licious: Aha! That explains the ‘Victoria Station’ chilli sauce ‘brand’ we saw on the table! Hmmm…if that’s the case, I doubt I’ll ever be going back coz me no likey Victoria Station!
