When I was 18, going on 19

Remember the year of the Macarena?

The year when Mariah Carey and Boys II Men topped the charts with One Sweet Day, which remained at the peak for a record-breaking sixteen weeks? (My then-bf and I selected this song as ‘our’ song…kinda begging for our relationship to be doomed right from the beginning, weren’t we?!?)

The year when No Doubt sang Don’t Speak?

When Barbra Streisand & Bryan Adams sang the song that probably became one of the more popular ‘wedding entrance songs’…I Finally Found Someone?

Remember the year when the song, Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion shot to fame after the movie, Up Close & Personal (starring Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeiffer) was released?

The year Toni Braxton said you’re making her high, and asked you to un-break her heart?

When R. Kelly believed he could fly?

Well, that was the year I turned 18…

And embarrassingly enough, among the whole list of songs listed here in that very year, the above were the only ones I remember, and probably can still sing along to…

The Rules

  1. Go to www.popculturemadness.com
  2. Select the year you turned 18
  3. Get all nostalgic over the songs of the year
  4. Write about it
  5. Pass this tag onto 5 others

And the (un)lucky five are…*taps fingers ala Mr. Burns from the Simpsons while looking through blogroll*…

  1. M from Pitter Potter coz I’ve been waiting ages for her to get a blog so that I can tag her…*evil laugh*
  2. Boon from Letters From The Equator
  3. Geekchic from…err…Geekchic
  4. Carrot from Counting The Days
  5. Kuan Siew from Siew Says

Err…I’m assuming you guys do memes, else just ignore me…

I love Toni Braxton’s Un-Break My Heart. hmmm, how coincidental that when her song was a hit, my heart got broken… LOLOL! good stuff, your year!

Thanks for doing it! :) And that “our song” bit is just too cute! :)

May: LOL! My year alot of lovey-dovey songs…

Pinkelle: My pleasure…thanks for tagging! Haha…and the ‘our song’ part…it’s quite funny coz with my 1st bf, our song was Ning Baizura’s In Another Life (another doomed one!). With my hubby, it’s ‘Forever’ by Damage and ‘Finally Found Someone’ (we greedy, wanted two songs instead of one…*grin*)…go figure!

Heya first time here via Zewt’s! :)

I lurrvveee that Barbra Streisand and Bryan Adam’s duet.. it’s such a timeless piece. I still sing to it even today. Hehz.

And No Doubt’s Don’t Speak was their first ever hit that made them popular, I believe - quite a song it was.

(Sorry I don’t mean to comment on so many songs but I just have to talk about one more.. ;p)

I have Boyz II Men’s CD in my car and One Sweet Day is one of my all-time favorite.. I loop it so often that even my sis got fed up of sitting in my car!
