Good friends, good shopping

Mon, 11 Jun 2007, 01:05 pm

The first half of my fantastic Sunday started off with a shopping spree at KLCC with M! M had a 20% discount voucher from the newly-opened Banana Republic and she kindly invited me along to check out the shop at KLCC.

Our first stop was at Anya Hindmarch as I wanted to enquire about the ‘I’m Not A Plastic Bag‘ tote. Touted as the IT bag for the season, the cream cotton bag, which has been spotted on celebrities like Keira Knightley is positioned as an environmentally friendly tote.

anya hindmarch i??m not a plastic bag

The launch of the bag in UK had people queuing up in the wee hours of the morning, though I think it’s probably because it’s a designer bag priced at £5 and not so much because it’s environmentally friendly! The bag is up for grabs in M’sia come July for only RM55…alas, the waiting list is already full…

Anyways, from Anya onwards to Banana…

Banana Republic is located at the 1st floor, Isetan side (sorry, I can never remember the actual names of the two ends…so it’s either the Isetan side, or the Mdm Kwan side… ). The store is divided into 5 sections: The middle (entrance) and the two sections to the left houses the ladies attire and changing rooms, while the two sections to the right are for the men. The store is pretty spacious, and has a nice relaxed and beach-y feel to it. Currently, the collection that is being showcased is their Summer 2007 collection, titled Summer City Safari. Most of the apparel are made from lightweight cotton fabrics which is just perfect for our hot KL weather.

Put two girls together in a new store with plenty of clothes to try, and what do you get? One tired shop assistant, that’s what! Luckily, the sales personnel at BR are really helpful and attentive, and more than willing to bring us different sizes to try. M & I must’ve spent nearly an hour in there, trying on several tops, pants and dresses that we’d picked out! The fitting rooms are really hot though…not sure if it’s because of the bright lights or insufficient air-conditioning…

I ended up purchasing a black silk chiffon bubble top with a halter-style rope tie and cotton striped, round-neck tank.

M bought the same black halter top, an olive-coloured cropped cardi and the loveliest black dress with capped sleeves and a nipped-in waist. I really love the black dress that she bought as it’s simple, yet elegant and it fits her perfectly. It’s really a day to night dress as it can be worn to the office in the daytime or dressed up with a wide belt around the waist and some jewelry for a formal function at night! Luckily there was only one piece left, else I would’ve been really really tempted to buy another for myself!

From BR, we went to Kino, then to L’Occitane to collect some vouchers that I’d redeemed with the points from my L’Occitane card. I ended up using the vouchers there and then to get a jar of Shea Butter body scrub for myself and a trio of hand creams for my mum.

A short browse around Eclipse, Topshop, Isetan, Gucci and finally, Miss Sixty left both of us feeling hungry and thirsty. We bought some healthy fruit smoothies to quench our thirst before heading down to the concourse to grab some snacks. M ended up buying a *Premium Muffin* from Cold Storage (RM1.50 for a really small muffin!), while greedy little me bought some pies from KingPie…yum yum!

We reached home at around 5.30pm with aching feet and shoulders and just enough time for a quick snack and a catnap before dinner.

MeiyeN: Thanks! Not easy to find something that fits, especially from American brands! Haha…well, I usually shop alone anyways, so never had to hear that phrase!

Ec: Hello! Banana Republic price range…hmmm. I don’t think I saw anything below RM100, and the most expensive item we tried yesterday was RM600. The top I bought costs RM289.

And thanks…hope you continue to read (and leave comments)…

ah, that shopping bag - heard abt it that day from my friend. Think I will have to ask someone to bring it back from London for me.

Anya Hindmarch is nice! I do love her quirky designs too!

Banana Republic is the floor above Coach so it’s erm…. Ampang Mall that side. Coz I pass it every freaking day. I still have 2 20% discount card with me and prolly a few more in the office. I haven’t even stepped into BR!!

  8. Comment by Mavis on 11 June 2007 @ 11:40 pm

Oooh, you have more BR discount cards? I’m thinking about the shorts…

  9. Comment by sooyin on 11 June 2007 @ 11:41 pm

Boo_licious: Sold out in UK, apparently! This is one good marketing tactic, I tell ya!

Mavis: Heheh…your ass is a premium muffin? Nyeknyeknyek…

The pic of our top is from BR’s website. And no, couldn’t find any pic of your dress…so strange. Better double check it’s actually from BR… And thanks for offering!

Pinkelle: Yeah, Anya stuff is nice, isn’t it? I would really like to make a bag, but no nice photos. Am trying to convince Mavis above to make one with pics of her bunny, Bucky…he’s soooooo cute!

Cheekypumpkin: Hehe…too bad cannot add up the discount cards and turn it into 100% discount…

aiks! Guess I have to ask my sis to put her name down on the wait list. Now I know why my friend was so smug when she told me she’s on the list for one from the KL shop.

  11. Comment by cheekypumpkin on 12 June 2007 @ 6:08 pm

i just checked and there are a few more in the office. would a waste if no one takes it. hehehe… anyone wants? gotta post la. 20% is lot of discount. hehehe…

  12. Comment by sooyin on 12 June 2007 @ 7:04 pm

Boo_licious: Ya, better ask her to put her name on the wait list if you really want the bag. Apparently, it’s restricted to two per customer in UK. I didn’t expect the wait list in KL to fill up so quickly, plus I was told that it’s only ONE per customer in M’sia…

Cheekypumpkin: Thanks for offering! I think Mavis is still thinking about the shorts that she didn’t buy on Sunday, not sure if she would like to have one more voucher. As for me, I’m broke broke broke…so whether it’s 20% or 80%, I’ll have to resist!

Mavis: Woman, Cheekypumpkin still has the discount vouchers…
