Food review: Jarrod & Rawlins
Tried it? Rate it!
I know I’m supposed to continue with the sadly extremely overdue ‘Part Deux’ of the floggers gathering at Max!, but since I haven’t edited the photos yet, I thought I’ll just sneak this short post in.
We were doing the usual couple thingy tonight. I’m sure all you attached folks out there are familiar with it. It’s the usual song and dance, cat and mouse, whatchacallit routine.
“Eat what?”
“Dunno. What you wanna eat?”
“Dunno. You le?”
“Dunno. You think la…”
“XXX place?”
“Dowwan.”
“Then you suggest la…”
“Hmmm…dunno la. What you wanna eat?”
Sigh.
Anyways, hubby suddenly remembered Jarrod & Rawlins…and I was pretty eager to try it coz I’ve heard and read some good reviews about this place, plus it’s so near…so off we went.
We sat upstairs in the restaurant…too hot to sit outside without aircon, nowadays! The place was pretty packed with the after-office crowd, but there were still two tables available for couples.
The menu didn’t seem to feature many dishes, and I made up my mind quite quickly coz I was really hungry. For starters, I ordered the Atlantic Prawn salad with Marie Rose sauce. Fancy schmancy name for shrimps with thousand island dressing. And small shrimps too! And pepper! Who puts pepper in shrimp salad?!?
Hubby had Caesar salad. It didn’t look very appetizing so I didn’t bother to try.
For mains, hubby ordered the pork knuckles while I went for Cumberland pork sausages. I didn’t like mine…the gravy wasn’t to my liking, neither were the sausages. As for hubby’s pork knuckles…give me El Cerdo anytime, babe! The meat was absolutely tasteless. The skin was hard and not at all tasty. It was just one big fat lump of tasteless meat. Wait, make that dry, tasteless meat. How dry? So dry till I chewed and chewed and couldn’t get enough moisture out to swallow.
Sigh. Talk about a disappointing Friday dinner. I left the place feeling rather disgruntled…
Anyways, some people seem to like the food there, so were we unlucky, ie. did we go on a bad day? Feedback, anyone?
