A make-up and book binge

Mon, 25 Jun 2007, 10:21 pm

*** Taking a break from blogging about food ***

I’d been wanting to get some new make-up stuff and I finally decided to head to Midvalley this afternoon…but not before SMS-ing the make-up guru, Geekchic…”Hey…quick question. Bobbi Brown vs. Shu for eye makeup…what’s yr pick?:-)”

Shu, I was told. So Shu it was!

I spent nearly two hours at the Shu Uemura counter where make-up artist, Kevin, patiently showed me how to apply eye shadow, eye liner and mascara. Yes, I can self-learn how to install and tweak Wordpress plugins, but give me a palatte of eye shadow and an eye liner and I’m as helpless as a lost kitten…*purr*…

Anyways, the result of the Kevin’s hard work resulted in a gaping hole in my wallet.

Here’s what I got:

1. Luminizer
2. Brow pencil
3. Eyeliner
4. Lengthening mascara
5. Four eyeshadows in purple, brown, beige and black and a limited edition case to store said eyeshadows
6. Shu Uemura’s Lavender scented Depsea Water
7. Limited edition lip gloss palette
8. UV Under Base

And while I was there, I dropped by MPH to browse around, and ended up buying a whole stack of books and mags…

Pisang goreng goreng pisang

Tue, 03 Apr 2007, 11:44 pm

I ate too much of the above this evening. Was feeling so hungry late in the evening after half a bowl of porridge, roti kahwin and TFF for lunch, I nipped downstairs, across the busy road, under the rumbling LRT and bought RM2 worth of deep fried bananas.

Back at the office, I eagerly dug in. One became two. Two became three. And three quickly became six (and none left for hubby to try). The bananas were fried just right…crispy on the outside, meltingly soft on the inside. And still hot, too! Munched my way through the whole bag as I puzzled over what appeared to be absolute gibberish on my computer screen (which, in actual fact, was a piece of coding that I was half-heartedly writing earlier when my mind was 90% focused on my hungry tummy).

On the way home, my tummy rumbled and grumbled over the access intake of oil and by the time we made it through the jam that is usual in KL when it rains, and into BV2’s basement parking, I was feeling decidedly sick. And decidedly pukey. Ugh.

Luckily, dinner at the newly opened Sakae Sushi helped calm my tummy down. I had a temaki and one plate of inari sushi, hoping the rice would soak up the oil. And the Dobin Mushi was a godsend…piping hot, clear soup. That was all I could take at that point.

Right now, though, I’m feeling extremely peckish, no thanks to the light dinner. And for some weird reason, I find myself thinking of fried bananas drizzled with honey and a scoop of ice cream.

Mmmmm…

Monthly mags you can’t go without

Sat, 24 Mar 2007, 02:48 pm

Ages ago, my monthly list of must-buy mags used to be just Cleo (been reading this since I was in college!) and Female.

Lately though, I’ve realized that the list has grown. Every month, I *must* have the following:

magazines.jpg

1. Cleo (I’m getting too old for this, though!)
2. Female
3. Women Weekly (M’sian edition)
4. Hot
5. OK! (M’sian edition)
6. Klue
7. Digital Camera

And if hubby doesn’t buy his usual tech magazines so that I can *steal* from him later, I’ll probably also get:

8. Stuff
9. T3

On and off, I sometimes get a copy of Malaysian Tatler, and after browsing through some copies of Harpers Bazaar, I’m thinking of adding that to my list too. There’s also a new magazine that was launched recently…Style or something or other. It’s buried somewhere beneath my whole pile of mags, too lazy to excavate it to find out the title.

With at least nine magazines every month, I wonder why I still complain that I have nothing to read at home?? *grin*

How bout you? What’s YOUR monthly magazine must-buys? Any other magazines to recommend? Do list it on your blog or in my comment box! :-)
