Chopchop!

Tue, 26 May 2009, 04:35 pm

I’ve had long hair for ages. The length may vary, but it has never gone above my shoulders.

Recently, my hair started dropping…part and parcel of post-pregnancy. I didn’t like washing my hair and towel drying it only to find lots of long strands of wet hair stuck to my towel.

The weather has also been so hot that I’ve been tying up my hair every day. Plus, I don’t even have time to let my hair dry properly before tying it up coz I don’t like carrying Elena with my hair down (in case it gets into her mouth, not to mention her hands!).

Over the past week, I mused over whether I should cut my hair short. Of course, I was apprehensive…it’ll take ages to grow it out if the cut wasn’t nice. I played with virtual makeover softwares online (InStyle & Cosmo - Cosmo’s software is easier but not that many hairstyles to choose from, InStyle’s software takes abit longer, but there are lots and lots of options). I searched for pictures of hairstyles that I wanted (couldn’t find any that I really liked). And I surfed the ‘net for hairsalons @ The Curve (I wanted to try a new place, being the serial hairstylist cheater that I am…plus, I wanted somewhere near to where I’m currently staying).

While I couldn’t find any haircuts that I particularly liked, I did read some good reviews about a hairsalon called Hairkunst, located at The Curve, and decided to give it a try.

Result?

A very much shorter and layered hairstyle which falls just slightly above my shoulders. The photo above is after a blow-dry at the salon. The next morning, after washing my hair, towel drying it and scrunching some products on, I get a more tousled/messy type of look:

What I love about the cut:
1. My head feels so much lighter
2. It doesn’t take a long time for my hair to dry naturally
3. The shorter cut accentuates the slight waviness in my hair (I’ve never noticed it before, but the stylist insists it’s there)
4. The split ends are gone!

What I love about the salon:
1. Location, location, location!
2. The senior stylist, Jojo, patiently listened to what I wanted and gave her own suggestions and input
3. Price! RM55 omg!

Do I miss my long(er) hair? Well, not really. It does feel weird running my fingers through my hair only to grasp air after a few inches though…

Stuff I want to do when my pregnancy’s over

Wed, 07 Jan 2009, 08:26 pm

In no particular order of preference…

1. Wear heels. High heels. I’m so sick of my Crocs I think I’m just gonna throw them away after this…

2. Lie on the bed and flip from side to side without feeling like a beached whale.

3. Be able to see my toes and cut my toenails. Hubby had to cut my toenails for me the last time I tried. I don’t know who was more scared, me or him.

4. Fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans again…and that includes being able to zip it up! God only knows how long that’ll take…

5. Go for a long-awaited-for massage. Give me the works…a good body scrub followed by a hot-stone massage, Thai massage, aromatherapy massage…bring it all on! And a La Mer facial…the one indulgence that I’ve promised myself!

More shopping (for mummy)!

Sat, 16 Aug 2008, 03:18 pm

Well, I have a good excuse…haha…my existing clothes are getting tighter!

Last night’s shopping spree at MNG was unplanned. Hubby wanted to go to Midvalley to buy some stuff for his company outing today, and I ended up happily traipsing into MNG just to look-see.

Well, I ended up with the following (all nice and roomy at the tummy area!) from their Fall ‘08 collection (just couldn’t resist!):

From left:

A top in one of my favourite MNG fall colours (and a similar one in a nice light blue), a dress in dark green (couldn’t find the colour in the catalogue) and a similar one in the same colour as the top, and the paisley dress shown on the right. I also got a long-sleeved knitted top that’s fitted at the bodice but flared just below the bust to accommodate my growing belly…it was on sale as it’s from the previous season.

My bank balance is gonna suffer though! Perhaps I should ask hubby if I can use our baby fund to pay for these instead…

Mummy goes shopping!

Tue, 05 Aug 2008, 02:53 pm

I finally felt well enough (ie. no day long nausea!) to venture out shopping yesterday. Here’s the loot I picked up from Mooie, Moca, Ted Baker & Clarks!

Some loose/babydoll dresses to fit the growing belly…

And 3 pairs of flats…boo hoo…no more sky high heels for the next 6+ months!

I used to have a pair of boots from Clarks back in my uni days…I think I wore it for a good 2 years as it was perfect for walking around campus and day trips to Birmingham and London as the padded soles ensured my feet were comfy throughout the day. It was for this reason that I decided to drop by at Clarks to see if I could find any nice flats…granted, these three pairs ain’t as sexy as my 4 inch gold heels from Aldo, but I doubt I’ll be able to balance in 4 inch heels when I have a small watermelon in my belly!

And, that…M, is why I’m broke!

Champagne is not yellow (and eBay rocks!)

Thu, 10 Jul 2008, 05:21 pm

Ages and ages ago, I chanced upon this dress at BCBG in Isetan, KLCC:

Pale lime bcbg dress

It was love at first sight! I kept my fingers crossed, tried it on…and it fit (well, sort of…with some alterations here and there)! It’s a typical BCBG dress…sweet, flow-y, dreamy…and freaking expensive. Definitely not something I could afford on a whim…

Not long after that, I started hunting down the same dress on eBay…and voila! It appeared on my watch list after some time…and in my size too! In my excitement, my mind somehow clouded over the fact that the dress was listed as ‘BCBG Champagne Chiffon Beaded Strap Dress‘. Without giving it much thought (I was really excited, ok?), I entered the minimum bid. Well, I won and promptly paid up and waited eagerly for the dress.

Imagine how much of a Homer Simpson I felt like when I opened the parcel to find the exact dress that I wanted…but in this colour:

 …shockshockhorrorhorror…

Since I’d already planned to wear the dress for a friend’s wedding, I had no choice but to get it altered even though I wasn’t really crazy about the colour.

Fast forward a couple of days after I received the parcel…I saw the same dress being advertised again in eBay, but in the colour that I’d originally wanted (Pale Lime…it’s called Pale Lime!!). I debated with myself whether or not to bid for the dress again, and in the end, I caved in coz I really really love the colour…but was outbid by someone else (although I did end up pushing her minimum bid up by almost US30…hahah!).

Just a week ago, another listing came up, and again, I thought….should I? Shouldn’t I? I held off literally till the very last minute before deciding to try. Someone had already placed a minimum bid, and so I thought…well, no harm trying. If it’s mine, it’s mine. So, three minutes before the listing closed, I entered my bid…and whaddaya know? I won!

Two lessons learnt though…
#1: Champagne is not yellow, repeats…champagne is not yellow.
#2: Stuff in eBay is pretty cheap! LOL! The price of both dresses plus the alterations was still less than the original cost of one same dress in BCBG…
