The Apartment @ The Curve

Despite her bad experience during her first visit, M kindly accompanied me to The Apartment @ The Curve yesterday afternoon for lunch as I’d been wanting to try the place out since I saw it about 3 weeks ago. We arrived at 12.30pm to find the restaurant surprisingly empty, and chose a table near the entrance.

After finally giving it a try, I’ve really gotta say that this place is a classic case of style over substance. The proverbial dumb blonde, so to speak.

On the style side of things, well, you’ve gotta hand it to the person who came up with the idea and decor. It’s really lovely and kinda quirky, with different sections of the restaurant decorated like different rooms in an apartment…bedroom, living room, library, etc. It’s the type of cafe/restaurant you’re more likely to stumble upon in, say…Sydney or Melbourne, than in Petaling Jaya, and it looks like a great place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with friends, chit-chatting/gossiping/b*tching (take your pick!) over desserts and ice-cream.

Substance, however, is sadly lacking. Among the three dishes that we ordered, namely Vin’s Portabello, fishcakes and a beef sandwich, only the portabello mushrooms were up to scratch. The fishcakes lacked flavour, and had a really ‘fishy’ taste. The beef sandwich that M had…oh dear, it was apparently so salty that the poor girl had to deconstruct the whole sandwich and pick out all the beef slices.

Service was quite iffy, and rather blur, for want of a better word. M wanted to buy some cupcakes (the cupcakes are from Cuppacakes) but was told that they’d run out of the proper cupcake containers. She asked one of the waiters to help search for a suitable one…but a few minutes later, we saw the same waiter standing nearby and when she reminded him, he looked absolutely blur, as if he’d just been kidnapped by aliens and forgot the events in the past 5 minutes. Or something like that. I don’t really know how to explain it…it’s just weird. M had the same experience the previous time she was at The Apartment…wrong food being brought to her table, just bad service, basically.

It’s still early days, so hopefully the service will improve. Still, unless the quality of the food improves as well (I mean, who messes up fishcakes?!?), I doubt I’ll be going back there anytime soon.

Yes, service is iffy - lots of pink shirt guys and gals standing around looking lost or worst! chit chatting at the bar area. I had a better experience there as my starter and dessert were both good, mains was ok.

Hmmm. Been meaning to go there for some time already. What’s with Malaysian restaurants and bad waiters anyway? Sigh.

Well..I was there a few days back, and I thought the food I ordered were quite good.
My kid (who thought the decor was rather cute & fun)ordered the sandwich (forgot the name)that was filled with potato crisps and a gooey sorta cheese. It tasted ordinary at first, but after a while, the taste sorta grew on me.
The Portobello mushrooms were, as you said,up to scratch: I never thought pesto sauce could go so well with mushrooms.
Wifey had the Andrew’s Pasta, which were quite decent, but 2 dishes with pesto sauce..?
But what I loved were the Clams in Creme Fraiche and Mussels in Chili Tomato Sauce.
The shellfish were very fresh and plump, cooked just right to retain their juiciness. And the sauces: Creme Fraiche stirred into white wine was just right - not too sour, and not too rich. Went very well with the slices of toasted bread that came with it.
Chili Tomato sauce was not spicy at all - even my daughter could take it. It was tangy, rich and went very well with the cheese sandwich.
All in all, we enjoyed ourselves, and would definitely return.

Boo_licious & Lyrical Lemongrass: Ya…Malaysian restaurants and their bad waiters really leaves alot to be desired. I didn’t bother to blog about it, but when M tried to take-away the cupcakes and they found that they’d run out of the proper containers, they came back with a high cup-like see-through container which fit the cupcake perfectly. Except that once the cupcake was inside, you couldn’t get it out unless you overturn the darn thing! LOL…it was one of those situations where you don’t know whether to laugh or to cry…

MeiyeN: The decor is really nice, plus they like you take piccies too! Well, I suggest you still give it a try, after all, both Boo and Garrett had good experiences with the food, so it’s not all bad…

WMW: Ohh…woe betide the restaurant that can’t cook mushrooms…*coughdeliciousundercookedmushroomcough*.

Garrett: I’m glad you enjoyed the food there! I’ll keep those dishes in mind when/if I go back there the next time…thanks very much! And yes, the decor is really nice, isn’t it?

Nothing special about this makan place.
Went the KLCC outlet last month, but decided to go other place as their menu look really ‘ugly’. We can’t decided what to eat… Too many…
Asked the waiter what they could recommend, even they can’t decide…

    Won’t go again…
