Champagne is not yellow (and eBay rocks!)

Thu, 10 Jul 2008, 05:21 pm

Ages and ages ago, I chanced upon this dress at BCBG in Isetan, KLCC:

Pale lime bcbg dress

It was love at first sight! I kept my fingers crossed, tried it on…and it fit (well, sort of…with some alterations here and there)! It’s a typical BCBG dress…sweet, flow-y, dreamy…and freaking expensive. Definitely not something I could afford on a whim…

Not long after that, I started hunting down the same dress on eBay…and voila! It appeared on my watch list after some time…and in my size too! In my excitement, my mind somehow clouded over the fact that the dress was listed as ‘BCBG Champagne Chiffon Beaded Strap Dress‘. Without giving it much thought (I was really excited, ok?), I entered the minimum bid. Well, I won and promptly paid up and waited eagerly for the dress.

Imagine how much of a Homer Simpson I felt like when I opened the parcel to find the exact dress that I wanted…but in this colour:

 …shockshockhorrorhorror…

Since I’d already planned to wear the dress for a friend’s wedding, I had no choice but to get it altered even though I wasn’t really crazy about the colour.

Fast forward a couple of days after I received the parcel…I saw the same dress being advertised again in eBay, but in the colour that I’d originally wanted (Pale Lime…it’s called Pale Lime!!). I debated with myself whether or not to bid for the dress again, and in the end, I caved in coz I really really love the colour…but was outbid by someone else (although I did end up pushing her minimum bid up by almost US30…hahah!).

Just a week ago, another listing came up, and again, I thought….should I? Shouldn’t I? I held off literally till the very last minute before deciding to try. Someone had already placed a minimum bid, and so I thought…well, no harm trying. If it’s mine, it’s mine. So, three minutes before the listing closed, I entered my bid…and whaddaya know? I won!

Two lessons learnt though…
#1: Champagne is not yellow, repeats…champagne is not yellow.
#2: Stuff in eBay is pretty cheap! LOL! The price of both dresses plus the alterations was still less than the original cost of one same dress in BCBG…

PS they totally butchered this show

Sun, 22 Jun 2008, 07:18 pm

Even though my website is still in a mess (categories, my categories are all gone!), I just HAVE to get this off my chest.

Out of sheer boredom and desperation, I finally caved in and watched PS I Love You last night. I’d originally refused to watch it because I think Hilary Swank is nowhere close to how I picture Holly Kennedy to be, and well, ever since Boys Don’t Cry and Million Dollar Baby, I’ve always thought of her as a man.

Anyhoo, I watched it…and obviously, from this post’s title, totally hated it. Why?

The story was changed so much it’s like it’s taken from an entirely new book! It’s set in New York. Holly’s brothers were dropped from the story. Holly’s father became a man who abandoned his wife and kids. Ciara looks ridiculous. Their holiday to Spain became a holiday to Ireland. Holly becomes a shoe designer. The letters are delivered in ridiculous ways, including…from a singing leprechaun! Her mom owns a pub, and Daniel works in that pub. And what’s with that ridiculous singing scene in Holly’s apartment? And who came up with this William character?!? It’s like everything that they could change from the book, they did! They should’ve just called it Oh we lost the book so we’ll make up the story as we go along. PS, I love you. And let’s not get me started on Hilary Swank and her wide-toothed, annoying smile…my goodness, she and Ben Affleck have that same cheesy, irritating Captain America smile. I wonder what would their kids look like. But I digress.

The only thing I liked about the show were Holly’s cute outfits.

Granted, the book was not a Pulitzer prize winner, but it sure was a hell lot better than the movie. It just irritates me when they make a movie out of a good book and spoil everything in the process. Let’s just hope The Time Traveler’s Wife fares much better than this one.

Everything is labeled uncategorized. Going back to categorize post by post is gonna take ages. Sigh.

About 80% of the pics are up at my Flickr account…*click*…more to come soon.

The beach at Sofitel Seminyak

Food was GOOD all the way….we pigged out like there was no tomorrow.

Weather was so-so…rainy and overcast during the evenings, which didn’t make for good photo taking, unfortunately. It was extremely sunny and hot in the afternoons though, and despite applying sunblock, for the first time ever, I came back from a beach holiday with a tan. Horror of horrors!! And it made me *quote* look like a brown monkey *unquote*… :???:

Lots of La Mer Whitening Essence, religiously applied twice a day finally got me back to my original colour (phew) although my left wrist still has a slightly noticeable white band when I don’t have my watch on.

Back to the food. I can’t tell you how amazing it was. Three places that have stuck firmly in my mind:

1. Naughty Nuris - best pork ribs I’ve EVER had. EVER.
2. Ibu Oka - the babi guling is to die for. OMG, so damn good…if I could tapau back I would.
3. Mozaic - fantastic gastronomical experience. Even the foam had taste. Put it this way…it’s twice (or even thrice!) as good as Lafite for half the price.

Fly me back there for a day to have Ibu Oka for brunch, Nuris for lunch, and Mozaic for dinner (incidentally, all three are located in Ubud) and I’ll love you forever.
