What a waste part 2

Sun, 19 Aug 2007, 05:42 pm

Just after I blogged about this, I read in the newspapers today that some bright soul came up with the idea of making a house out of 20,000 fruits.

The Fruity House, measuring 2.4m by 2.4m, even has its own mini golf course, a ??rock garden? and a flower garden in its compound.

It is aimed at displaying the wide variety of local fruits to Malaysians and tourists.

The Fruity House is on display at the Lower Ground Floor Oval, 1 Utama.

Oh my god…I mean, come on, people?!? Are we regressing or progressing, I wonder?

What a waste

Sat, 18 Aug 2007, 12:52 am

Edit [20 Aug 2007]:

As there were quite a few sms-es to The Star regarding the below, a student who participated in creating the kolam wrote a letter to The Star today to express his views regarding the wastage of rice. According to him, the rice used was broken rice of the lowest grade, normally used to feed livestock, and was chosen to minimise wastage.

Hence, my apologies for my post below where I said that the rice was wasted and should’ve been donated instead.

However, I do still stand by my belief that Malaysia does not need another ‘biggest longest tallest heaviest fastest stupidest’ record…

***************************************************************

I couldn’t find a link online, but if you take a look at yesterday’s Star newspaper, page 18, you’ll see a write-up on the latest entry into the M’sia Book of Records: the country’s biggest kolam for the 50th Merdeka celebration.

Made using 6,600kg of rice.

No disrespect to the 2,040 students and 103 teachers who slogged for two months to create this masterpiece…but 6,600kg of rice?!?

Couldn’t they have donated the rice instead? I’m sure there are plenty of people who needed the rice more than Malaysia needs another ‘the biggest longest tallest heaviest fastest stupidest’ record?

The difference between customer service here and there

Sat, 18 Aug 2007, 12:45 am

Remember the Moo stickers I received recently? The one where the last two pages were spoilt?

I emailed Moo’s customer service earlier this evening to ask if I had to send back the whole sticker-book or if I could just send the last two pages to ask for a reprint. In less than an hour, I received an email from Moo apologizing for the defects PLUS they gave me a coupon to order another set of stickers (plus free shipping!).

I’m amazed at the speed at which they replied, not to mention getting the free coupon which was rather unexpected.

One wonders what would’ve happened if this was a local Malaysia-sentiasa-boleh company?

Moo stickers

Thu, 16 Aug 2007, 03:58 pm

I received my Moo stickers yesterday.

Unfortunately, the last 2 pages of the tiny booklet were spoilt…the glossy thingy used on top of the stickers were crumpled…

I’m wondering if I should take the trouble to return it and get them to send me a new one, or just forget about it and write-off those two pages.

Common sense says send it back.

Sooyin sense says it’s too much bother.
